Inis Meáin Inis Meáin (which means in Gaeilge middle island) is one of the Aran Islands, which are geologically extensions of The Burren. About one hour sailing from the coast of Connemara, in Irelands west. During summer period ferries are also sailing from Doolin, Co. Clare.
The Aran Islands form part of a limestone formation, which is known by its special vegetation.
Inis Meáin counts about 150 inhabitants. Fishing, traditional farming, a knitting factory, B&B`s provide for a living. Of course, there is a pub and a church on the island.
The language spoken is Gaeilge, although most inhabitants also understand English.
From 2010 till 2018 Elisabeth Koopmans lived on Inis Meáin and experienced island life.
